RAYNHAM -- Two Brockton teens were killed and three injured yesterday after a car fleeing from police went airborne on
Route 138, hit a tree and split in half, authorities said.

Justin DeMello, 19, and Eric Brockway, 19, were killed after being ejected from the rear seat of the car during the crash,
according to Gerald FitzGerald, an assistant district attorney in Bristol County.

The driver of the car, Christopher Federici, 17, will be charged with two counts of felony motor vehicle homicide, FitzGerald
said. Federici was driving under the influence of an intoxicant, he said, though he did not know which one.

"Obviously, it's horrendous," FitzGerald said. "There's so many questions."

The pursuit began in Taunton at about 4 a.m. when the officer tried to pull over the 1999 Chevy Celebrity after Federici
allegedly ran a red light. The car fled north on Route 138 at a high speed, FitzGerald said.

On a straightaway about three miles into neighboring Raynham, the car crossed the center line, hit a guardrail on the south
side of road, and went airborne.

The car hit a tree about 16 feet up, and split in half. One piece landed about 25 feet from the guard rail, and the other
flew into nearby woods, FitzGerald said.

Taunton police captain Ted Finnegan said one cruiser was involved in the chase, and had fallen so far behind that he could
barely see the car's tail lights when it crashed.

He would not say how fast the car or the police cruiser had been going.

Federici, 17, of Brockton, David Peardon, 19, were in fair condition at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston last night,
hospital officials said. Anthony Acciavatti was in the intensive care unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, the
hospital said.
